The Saco Bay Rotary Club was happy to donate $600 to a junior who has been at TA since 2024. Her sister is a senior this year, and their family is originally from Azerbaijan. They lived in Turkey for several years before immigrating to the U.S., and both are powerhouse students and highly involved in many activities, including TA's Model UN Club.
The sisters are also the founders of Glamor Gals, the club at TA that sends students to local retirement homes to give makeovers and make connections with the residents.
One of the groups they have been especially involved in is Girls Learn International. As a result of that work, this hardworking TA junior was invited to participate in the annual United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in NYC in March 2026.
She will have the opportunity to connect with ambassadors from around the world and other young activists, and to speak directly with the United Nations about this cause.
"Our hope is that she will come speak with us after her trip to New York about her involvement with the United Nations", said David Arenstam, President of Saco Bay Rotary. "She is certainly an impressive young student."
Jennifer Day of Thornton Academy attended our weekly meeting and accepted the donation on behalf of the student.
