The New England Parkinson’s Ride, now in its eighth year at Old Orchard Beach, has asked the Saco Bay Rotary Club to help with three tasks:
- Prepare lobsters and corn for 300 riders on Friday, September 11th. The meal will be served between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM.
- On Saturday, September 12th, Assist with car parking at the Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach and provide two Rotarians to assist in providing information to NE Parkinson’s Ride riders and staff during the day.
- Provide assistance along the routes at rest stops and cheer the riders on as they cover the routes that range from 10 miles to 100 miles. This event is not a race that attracts many spectators to encourage and cheer the riders on, and the sight of crowds along the routes provide them with a boost of energy to help keep them going and a sense of accomplishment to know that others recognize the effort they are putting in to help raise funds to combat Parkinson’s Disease.
The New England Parkinson’s Ride covers 190 miles of road ways in Southern Maine and includes the following areas:
Old Orchard Beach, Saco, Biddeford, Kennebunk, Kennebunk Port, Arundel, North Berwick, Sanford, Alfred, Waterboro, Scarborough, and Ocean Park.
Since the venue of the ride covers such a large area in Southern Maine, collaboration and assistance is requested from other Clubs in the area.
